You decide how you want to approach this challenge; you can take your time on the obstacles or speed through them like your pants are on fire. And if you fall, the refreshing waters of Calayo Bay are ready to catch you and cool you off. This is the perfect activity for the whole family. There is a minimum height requirement to enter. Island Hopping

Living in an archipelago, there is a strong call in many of us to explore small undeveloped islands. You can negotiate with local bakeros to go island hopping to the nearby fine sand coves and small islands that dot the Nasugbu coast line. The explorer in you will surely come alive when you snorkel along the pier-ruins of Bituin Cove or visit the fine sand beaches of Loren Island. Bring your own food, plenty of water and of course, your sunblock. (Photo credit: The Poor Traveller)

Estimated Cost: PhP 1,500.00 for a banca for 12 pax good for 4 hours
Distance from Resort: Take the Banca in front of the resort, the nearest stop is a short 15-20 minute ride away.

Kayak to the Mangrove Area

Calayo Green Terraces sits about 500 meters from the Calayo river mouth. This amazingly clean and bountiful river has a big fishing community living along its banks. Take a kayak up-river and explore the “Patay na Ilog”, a dead-end branch of the river with low-lying mangrove branches overhead. Paddle beyond the fishing village and see the mangrove-lined banks of the river. (When you rent kayaks from the resort, life vests are provided.) You can get off your kayak and try to walk on the soft silt bottom, but be careful not to get sucked in by the soft mud and pot-holes. For the lucky ones, in the fine silt, you may find clams the locals call “Lokan”. Gather enough clams and you can have halaan for dinner! (Photo credit: Floyd Piedad)

Estimated Cost: Approx. PhP 300.00/hour (Kayak Rental from the resort comes with a Life Vest)
Distance from Resort: 10 minutes padding time

Learn to Standup Paddleboard

Dating back to the 1600’s, standup paddleboarding gained wide-spread popularity in Hawaii in the 1900’s. An off shoot of surfing, it became popular worldwide in the 2000’s. Try your hand (and balance!) at paddleboarding, you will find it is a serious workout. The calm waters and shallow sandbars of the Calayo river mouth make it a perfect place to learn how to paddleboard. More advanced paddleboarders can paddle up-river and take a tour of the mangrove areas. Those seriously challenged can paddle into the Calayo Bay and paddleboard just like the Hawaiians paddle out into open waters. (Photo credit: Floyd Piedad)

Estimated Cost: Approx. PhP 300.00/hour (Paddleboard Rental from the resort comes with a Life Vest)
Distance from Resort: 10 minutes padding time

Buy seafood from local fishermen

The waters of Nasugbu have always been blessed with a bounty of fish and crustaceans. Since Calayo Beach is still predominantly a fishing village, early risers have a chance to meet the fishermen as they land with their catch. Negotiate a deal for your choice of the catch and grille it back at the resort. Or for a minimal cooking fee, you can have our staff cook your bounty.

Estimated Cost: Depends on your bargaining skills
Distance from Resort: Right along the beach

Watch the Sunset

Calayo Green Terrace’s third floor lounge area is the perfect place to watch mother nature paint the sunset sky in hundreds of glowing shades of pink, red, orange, purple and indigo. This magnificent display of nature’s beauty is the perfect way to end a day of fun and sun! In the sunset minutes, watch the sky put on its polychromatic display of color changes. Framed by the mouth of the bay, the Calayo Bay sunset-backdrop never ceases to amaze even the locals. (Photo Credit: Annica Mapua)

Estimated Cost: The show is completely free
Distance from Resort: Right at the resort.

Buy Peanut Brittle, Native Sweets & Kakanin along the beach

For guests who crave sweets, enjoy the local peanut brittle; a mixture of roasted native peanuts and sugar molasses. You can try to gulp down bites of powdery espasol, sticky calamay, ube flavored malagkit rice or tiny balls of sugar and macapuno strips. These are just a few of the sweet pinoy treats made by the local fishing families the traditional way, to augment their income. Give in to your sweet tooth and your generosity will help sustain this rustic community.

Estimated Cost: PhP 100.00 for a batch of three goodies.

Buy Local Mongo/Cheese/Chocolate Popsicles

When you hear the familiar bell of the ice cream vendor ring, you know you are in for a treat! Pinoy style ice drop popsicles are perfect on a hot day at the beach. Childhood memories flood back when your smiling Ice Cream vendor tells you what flavors he has: Cheese, Chocolate, and everybody’s favorite flavor – Vanilla with sweet red mung beans! Need I say more?

Distance from Resort: Just listen for that Ice Cream bell!

Kainan sa Dalampasigan

KAINAN SA DALAMPASIGAN is a must stop over place when passing by Nasugbu town en route to the beautiful beaches in Nasugbu. The place is one big dining hall with a homey garden feel. It’s a great place for home-cooked Filipino food yumminess. I would recommend to order the Binalot sa Dahon, Kare-Kare, Daing na Bangus or Tangingue Steak. Don’t leave without trying the desserts — lechen flan, halo-halo and sago gulaman. Make sure to include Kainan sa Dalampasigan in your itinerary when going to the Nasugbu beaches this summer. Distance from Resort: 20-30 minutes drive time.

El Cocinero by Chef Arnaldo

Situated in the heart of Nasugbu town proper and just in front of St. Xavier Parish church is a little Spanish restaurant owned by Chef Arnaldo Limeta. With 14 years of living in Ibiza, Spain, he brought home his own take of the best Paella Valenciana the town has ever tasted. El Cocinero has made quite a name for itself with its high quality food and understated yet refreshing ambiance. The ingredients are all fresh and perfectly mixed together, providing for a mouth-watering experience. They also have excellent tapas, pizcado and paellas, all at very reasonable prices. The restaurant can only seat 20 people, so make sure to reserve ahead of time if you are planning to eat here. If you’re looking for fresh, tasty and Spanish then this is the place to go.
